“From start to finish you cannot go wrong staying here!!
The property is beautiful. We enjoyed the pool and back patio.
The food and service was absolutely top notch! Farm to table is the rule here! Menus adjusted by personal taste. Great wines selected by owner to go with the food.
Meeting the farm animals was an unexpected yet wonderful bonus!!
The location will serve you well for all that you are doing in this region. And our hosts even gave us a guided tour by car.”
“What a spectacular time! What gracious hospitality with service and meals that exceeded 5 stars! The ambiance and setting of the house is truly special. The rooms and amenities are pristine and very comfortable. They will even drive you around the area to see some of the more beautiful spots to visit. We will always have such wonderful memories of the Manse!”
The most wonderful stay at the Manse
“We highly recommend this property. From the comfort of the room (we had room with a view), to the delicious meals cooked by Gary and the fine details added by Dietske (beautiful fresh flowers etc) we had a wonderful stay.
Highly recommend a visit here.”
A Hidden Gem!
“We’re so thrilled that we listened to the reviews on Trip Advisor and stayed for two nights at The Manse. It’s a bit off the beaten path but well worth the short drive outside of Napier. We arrived in the evening after a long drive just in time for hors d’oeuvre and wine before a fabulous 4-course dinner. The views of the vineyards in the valley below are exquisite at sunset. The service and the accommodations couldn’t have been better or more inviting. After a day of wine tasting the next day, Chef Gary whipped us up a gourmet frittata and entertained us with stories of the local culture before giving me a tour (and a taste) of his very impressive Scotch collection. The Manse was the best find (and the best night’s sleep) we had on our two week tour of New Zealand!”
A fantastic decadent treat
“We went on a Truffle hunt arranged by The Manse and then back to The Manse for a fantastic 4 course lunch. The lunch had a truffle theme. The food was out of this world. They matched wine with the food to make a delicious pairing. We were able to watch the chef – Gary in the kitchen and he explained what he was making and how he was cooking it.
The decor at The Manse was beautiful and everything was well appointed and superb. You can stay the night but we only did the truffle hunt and lunch.
Dietske and Gary are a great team who know how to make you feel special and how to make you not want to leave. It is an amazing property where most of their produce is sourced from the property.
If you want to be pampered and decadent this is the place to go.”
Don’t Know Where To Start!
“Gary and Dietske are perfect hosts combining New Zealand hospitality with European elegance. The Manse is a thoughtfully restored vicar’s home moved to its present location overlooking wine country. Our very comfortable view room with en suite bathroom is one of just two so there’s much personal attention. For our stay it was just us so we had Gary and Dietske all to ourselves. What a treat! Gary is a trained chef (be sure to ask him to bbq for you) and golf professional and since this was a golf vacation for us boy did we hit it off! He joined us at Cape Kidnappers (45 minutes away) and coached me to a great round of golf. We so appreciated Dietske’ attention to detail from the personalized menus to the fruit and nespresso machine in the room. She also makes a great cup of coffee to go with the homemade everything in this top-shelf farm to table experience. We hope to see them again same time next year!”
Amazing Napier Destination
“Gary and Dietske have combined talents to make The Manse a “must visit” stop on a New Zealand itinerary. It was a perfect base for exploring Napier and the Hawke’s Bay wine country. How wonderful after a day of cycling and cellar door visits to sit in a chaise by their pool enjoying their spectacular view. The original home has been thoughtfully updated and the rooms are elegant and well appointed, including a spacious bathroom. Gary, a chef with professional qualifications, prepared us a memorable dinner, served on their cozy porch. It was the definition of farm (theirs!) to table at its very best. Also, breakfast was an absolute treat with everything from the farm, cooked to perfection. We enjoyed visiting with Gary and Dietske and meeting the animals, both farm and pets, and appreciated their advice on NZ activities. Only drawback…we live too far to return soon!”
The Manse is definitely ‘The’
“Lovely former minister’s house on a hillside a few miles outside Napier. Elegant old house but the two guest rooms have been updated to the highest standard of comfort and convenience. Your hosts, Carl and Dietze give a warm welcome, but that’s only the beginning. Carl is a great chef and his cuisine is drawn almost exclusively from their own gardens and animals. D caters to your every whim unobtrusively.”
“Dietske and Gary were the perfect hosts. Our only complaint was too much food!, which really is not a complaint! The place and the food was amazing. We arrived there after three weeks in New Zealand and ready for some relaxing time. Great place to do just that.”
